Night of Racing Defies the Rain at Perry Barr

Seamus Cahill’s star greyhound lit up Perry Barr in the opening round of the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger, showing why he’s a force to be reckoned with. Despite no greyhound ever winning this competition back-to-back, Droopys Clue hinted that history could be made.

Clocking an impressive 42.74 seconds, he outpaced the other 35 competitors over the 710m distance by a significant margin, running 55 spots faster than anyone else. His front-running dominance was undeniable, as he extended his lead with every stride, eventually winning by a massive 15 1/4 lengths. Already a favourite for the title, this performance only solidified his position, much to the delight of his fans.

In the first heat, Greenwell Ange was the second fastest, showcasing early speed that secured her the lead within just a few strides. John Flaherty’s charge held off the late closers to take the win.

Both Toddys Thunder, trained by Tom Heilbron, and Diane Henry’s Savana Jackpot clocked identical times of 43.39 seconds. Another front-runner, Tuono Bella, secured victory for Paul Donovan in 43.79 seconds. Although Hurry Up Jordan posted the slowest time among the heat winners at 44.22 seconds, he stood out as the only greyhound to win from behind, making his comeback performance all the more remarkable.
