Thrilling Weekend of Greyhound Racing at Monmore and Crayford
A spectacular weekend of greyhound racing is set with exciting events at Monmore and Crayford.
Today will feature the heats for the Ladbrokes Gold Cup (480m) and the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic (630m) at Monmore. Tomorrow, the spotlight shifts to Crayford for the semi-finals of the unique Ladbrokes Guys & Dolls (380m) event.
The draws for the Monmore competitions, conducted on Wednesday, highlighted notable entries such as Droopys Clue, last year's runner-up and reigning Greyhound of the Year, in the Summer Stayers Classic, and Derby finalists Churchfield Syd and Whyaye Man in the Gold Cup.
Seamus Cahill’s Droopys Clue, who narrowly missed first place to Fromposttopillar last year, will compete in heat four of the six-bend event against Cooladerry Dust, a finalist in both the Regency and Coronation Cup. Meanwhile, Churchfield Syd and Whyaye Man will face off in an exciting heat three of the four-bend annual race.
The Monmore card is packed with major winners including Aero Sacundai, Newinn Benni, Havana Lover, Long Fellow, Coonough Crow, Queen Georgia, Baywatch Bullet, Cochise, and Swift Silly.
Crayford trainer Dave Lee eagerly anticipates Sunday’s semi-finals of the Ladbrokes Guys & Dolls, having sent out the winners of the three ‘Dolls’ heats last week, including the fan-favourite and prolific winner Laughil Jess.
This £5,000-to-the-winner event maintains separate categories for dogs and bitches—the ‘Guys’ and ‘Dolls’—until the final showdown on the following Sunday.
