Sussex Cup Excitement Builds!
HOVE's racing manager, Rob Abrey, is gearing up for a thrilling weekend as the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Regency (695m) and £10,000 Coral Sussex Cup (515m) kick off this Saturday on the south coast.
This year's event brings mixed emotions. While the return of Candolim Monsoon to defend his Sussex Cup title is exciting, the recent passing of 2023 Regency champion Space Jet casts a bittersweet shadow over the races. "Seeing Space Jet's name on the honours board brings both pride and sadness," Abrey remarked, reflecting on her legacy and impact on the sport.
Candolim Monsoon’s comeback is particularly special. "We feared he might never race again, but Derek Knight and his team have done an incredible job. He aims to make history as the first double winner of the Sussex Cup," Abrey said.
The competition is fierce, with top contenders like Greyhound of the Year Droopys Clue, Romeo Command, and New Destiny in the Sussex Cup. The Regency is equally competitive, featuring major winners such as Ballymac Taylor, Coonough Crow, Queen Georgia, Dazl Rolex, and local favourite Haka Carlo.
The Premier Greyhound Racing Regency (695m) and Coral Sussex Cup (515m) heats start this Saturday, live on Premier Greyhound Racing/Attheraces. Don’t miss the excitement!
