Queensland Racing Integrity Commission Bans Three Licensees for Animal Welfare Violations
Three licensees have received a combined ban of 14 years from the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) stewards due to serious breaches of animal welfare regulations.
Stephen, Sara, and Donna Howarth, who were suspended in January, faced 26 charges under the Greyhounds Australasia Rules of Racing. These charges included failure to provide veterinary care, neglect leading to pain and suffering, and compromising the health and welfare of a greyhound.
Additionally, they were charged with not complying with stewards' directions and giving false and misleading information. The total disqualification amounts to 14 years and three months, with an extra collective suspension of over a year if they are re-licensed in the future.
The penalties also included monetary fines and an official reprimand. All three individuals have been informed of their right to appeal the decision.
