New Destiny in Empress Stakes Opener

In the first round of the bet365 Empress Stakes, New Destiny showcased her speed by delivering the fastest time. Breaking from the traps with a 4.08 sectional, Mark Wallis’s talented greyhound surged to the front and maintained her lead effortlessly. Known for her stamina over slightly longer distances, New Destiny’s 28.75 run was her best at this track, though she has previously recorded an even sharper 4.05 sectional.

Leighas Dream, who recently finished as the runner-up in the Angel of the North, clocked in at 28.84 under Barry Denby’s guidance, just edging out Liz McNair’s Queen Georgia by two spots. Both greyhounds posted sectionals of 4.12 and 4.07, respectively. Avongate Venus continued her remarkable streak of form, securing victory in heat two with a time of 29.01 for trainer Phil Milner.

The remaining heats saw Iceman’s Girl, trained by Nathan Hunt, taking a win in 29.16, while McNair’s Queen Shakira claimed the final heat with a time of 29.42.
