Churchfield Syd Eyes Kent Derby Defence
Churchfield Syd is gearing up to defend his Premier Greyhound Racing Kent Derby crown at Central Park.
Originally, a run in the Birmingham Cup was on the agenda, but the tight schedule between the Perry Barr event and his stunning Monmore Gold Cup victory on Saturday has led to a change in plans. With the first round at Perry Barr set for September 7 and the Central Park competition not kicking off until October 5, a decision had to be made.
Trainer Richard Rees mentioned that Churchfield Syd would require a trial at Perry Barr, which would further shorten the already tight schedule, leaving little room for rest. Rees explained that they want to give the greyhound a couple of weeks off before preparing him for a trial at Central Park.
