Callaway Knegare Wins in Juvenile Derby

Ian Fortune couldn't help but marvel at Callaway Knegare’s performance in the Time Juvenile Derby final at Shelbourne Park, describing the greyhound as both powerful and exceptional. Callaway Knegare showcased his incredible talent by making a remarkable comeback after being momentarily hindered at the second bend, clocking an impressive time of 27.96 seconds. This run highlighted the exceptional capabilities of Droopys Sydney's offspring, trained by Owen McKenna.

Currently, Callaway Knegare stands as the 8/1 favourite to clinch the Boylesports Irish Derby in November, edging out Bockos Diamond for the top spot. His strength over the 525-yard distance suggests he’ll only benefit from the slight extension to 550 yards. A key storyline leading into the Derby will be whether he can challenge Pestana’s 28.99-second record.

Liam Dowling’s Ballymac Briar put up a valiant fight to secure third place. With early speed to challenge the favourite and leading until the final stretch, Ballymac Briar ultimately yielded to stronger competitors. However, his impressive early pace promises a bright future.

Innfield Destiny, a strong finisher, managed to split the two top contenders, displaying his potential for longer distances. As a half-brother to notable greyhounds like New Destiny and Coonough Crow, his performance suggests that six-bend races might be his ultimate calling.
