Baywatch Bullet Shines in Premier Greyhound Racing Regency Final

Baywatch Bullet delivered a commanding front-running performance to win the Premier Greyhound Racing Regency Final at Hove on Saturday. The race, which is the richest of the weekend, was secured by the Belinda Green-trained greyhound, a May 2021 offspring of Droopys Sydney.

With a prize of £20,000 for the winner, the 695m race promised intense competition. However, the race's dynamics shifted when the favourite, Cooladerry Dust, had a poor start. In contrast, Baywatch Bullet, owned by Billy Boyle, Danny Jones, and Gary Whittington, made a swift break with a fast 14.12-second split, leading to an impressive all-the-way victory.

Paul Young’s Bubbly Scorcher chased hard, turning in second and putting pressure on the leader. Yet, the local track favoured Baywatch Bullet's front-running style, allowing the dog to maintain a lead and finish just over two lengths ahead in 41.51 seconds.

Looking ahead, the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic at Monmore could be a potential next stop for the Kent St Leger finalist. Saturday night also marked a successful outing for trainer Belinda Green, who secured a four-timer, including a win for Turkish Lira in the Coral Regency Consolation with a time of 41.66 seconds.

The Coral Sussex Cup Final also highlighted the evening, delivering another victory for Hove-based trainers. Derek Knight, a veteran in the sport, equalled a record with his fifth win in the competition as Newinn Benni clinched the title. Positioned advantageously on the outside, the April 2022 whelp, also a son of Droopys Sydney, utilised a fast start to lead the pack. This "catch-me-if-you-can" strategy earned a £10,000 prize for Knight and the Rinn Prem OCL Syndicate.

Newinn Benni clocked in at 29.75 seconds, narrowly beating Wasted Monday (trained by Belinda Green), who finished second, and Droopys Clue, who finished strong to claim third, completing a Hove one-two-three finish.
