A New Homing Campaign

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has unveiled a fresh initiative aimed at encouraging the adoption of retired racing greyhounds. The “Share Your Life With a Greyhound” campaign highlights the unique qualities of these ex-racers, focusing on why they make exceptional pets and reaching those who might never have considered adopting one before.

This campaign, kicking off this month, intends to dispel common misconceptions about greyhounds, such as the amount of exercise they need or their temperament. By portraying them as affectionate, calm, and surprisingly low-maintenance, the campaign showcases greyhounds as ideal pets for individuals and families of all ages and lifestyles.

A key component of the campaign is to educate potential adopters by providing thorough information about both the breed and the adoption process. Through its website, the campaign offers resources on everything from essential equipment to home safety tips and guidance on helping greyhounds adjust to a new environment, ensuring prospective owners feel well-prepared to give these dogs a permanent, loving home.

This initiative aligns with GBGB’s long-term welfare plan, “A Good Life for Every Greyhound,” and builds on the progress made by the Greyhound Retirement Scheme (GRS). By leveraging strong partnerships with over 100 approved homing centres across the UK, the campaign directs interested adopters to centres that can guide them through the process of bringing a greyhound into their lives.

GBGB’s Commercial Director, Mark Moisley, expressed enthusiasm for the campaign, noting the broader mission of reaching those outside the racing community. With a national homing crisis affecting many dog breeds, he highlighted that now is a critical time to introduce greyhounds as loving, gentle companions to potential adopters everywhere.
