Wicky Ned Leads the Pack in £17,500 Showdown for BresBet Gymcrack Final

The highly anticipated final of the BresBet Gymcrack at Sheffield on Sunday promises an exciting battle, with Wicky Ned emerging as the frontrunner following an impressive return to form in the semi-finals over the weekend.

Jimmy Fenwick's contender, previously beaten by Droopys Supply in the heats, showcased a brilliant performance in the semis, matching his rival into the turn and then surging ahead to secure a commanding victory by three and three-quarter lengths. Clocking in at 28.62 seconds (normal) for the 500m distance, both Wicky Ned and Droopys Supply earned their spots in the £17,500 final.

Purchased by Fenwick and Neil McGregor after a standout victory in Cork, Wicky Ned, born in August 2022 from the lineage of Droopys Sydney and Ballycowen Lucy, demonstrated impressive trials before his maiden contest win at Sheffield. Despite a stumble in the heats, Wicky Ned recovered admirably, setting the stage for a thrilling final showdown.

Fenwick expressed his satisfaction with Wicky Ned's performance, noting the dog's resilience and maturing prowess. With high hopes for the future, Fenwick looks forward to the final, confident in Wicky Ned's ability to shine from trap two.

In the first semi-final, Ellanne Run secured Sheffield's representation in the final, clinching victory under Barrie Draper's guidance. The daughter of Ballymac Bolger and Bull Run Banter showcased impressive speed, leading from start to finish and securing a three and a quarter lengths win over Bramble Tango.

Joining Wicky Ned and Ellanne Run in the final are No Better Feeling and Droopys Extragud, with the former impressively surging ahead off the last bend to secure victory for trainer Chris Fereday.

With an exciting lineup set for the final, anticipation runs high as greyhound enthusiasts await the thrilling conclusion of the BresBet Gymcrack.
