Puppy Derby Slot Unchanged
Despite objections from several trainers, Monmore's upcoming PGR Puppy Derby will continue to be held as Saturday lunchtime fixtures.
Entain’s Head of Racing, Paul Illingworth, stated: “The plan was always to go with both the Winter Derby and the Puppy Derby and review it after that. There has been some feedback, and I would say it was split."
“Patrick Janssens pulled me to one side and said it was difficult to cover two different meetings, which I can see. But trainers often have to cover two meetings on a Saturday."
“We will also look at how the meeting impacted the stadium in terms of restaurants and so forth. Certainly, despite the reservations of some trainers, it didn’t affect the volume of entries which was very healthy."
The Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby starts on Saturday, March 16th, concluding with a £20K to the winner final two weeks later.
A Busy Weekend for Tom Heilbron
Tom Heilbron has a busy weekend ahead, with Gold Cup third Bogger Rambo and Northern Puppy Derby finalist Omuircheartaigh scheduled to race at Doncaster on Saturday night. Greyhound of the Year contender Links Maverick is set to contest the heats of a dual-distance event at Sheffield on Sunday.
