Speedsters Take Centre Stage as Golden Sprint Commences at Romford

This week, the spotlight shifts to Romford as the Category One greyhound racing extravaganza moves from Crayford to this Essex venue.

Following the success of the Premier Greyhound Racing Golden Jacket at the Kent venue, which demanded a combination of speed and stamina, the focus now shifts to Romford for the Coral Golden Sprint heats where the swift competitors have the chance to showcase their prowess.

The Friday heats boast an impressive lineup, although the recent Silver Maiden Trophy winner Pape Di Oro, under Savva Roberts, will miss the competition due to a minor setback. However, the Derby at Towcester remains a significant target for this Newcastle tracker.

The ante-post market is led by greyhounds such as Druids Say Go (Patrick Janssens), Crafty Shivoo (Mark Wallis), and Cooliogold (Maxine Locke). Cooliogold is part of a strong local challenge that includes kennelmates Droopys Eddie and Whitewood Lenny, along with Romeo Cypher.

Last year, Droopys Good secured victory in the Coral Golden Sprint for the Patrick Janssens kennel, continuing their success streak in the event, with previous wins by Goldies Hoddle (2020) and Bockos Jon Jo (2021). Mark Wallis' Rail Mccoy claimed the 2022 running.

Heat Breakdown:

Heat One: Crafty Shivoo (Mark Wallis) returns to the track after winning the Empress Stakes last year. Bombout Bullet (Belinda Green) is an Arc National Sprint champion. Without Justice (Barry O’Sullivan) impressed in a trial stakes win last week. Yahoo Megan (Patrick Janssens) and Shirleys Boy (Paul Young) add to the competitive field.

Heat Two: Bombay Zero (Paul Young) hails from a kennel with Golden Sprint success. Romeo Firebrand (David Mullins) and Stonepark Champ (Maxine Locke) bring their skills, while March On Mini (Nathan Hunt) aims for redemption after a Crayford final. Hopes Knight (Nathan Hunt) and Rapido Lady (Mark Wallis) add to the intrigue.

Heat Three: Romford Puppy Cup winner Romeo Crusade (David Mullins) eyes a double. Ojay Rocket (Martyn Wiley), Front Alice (Kevin Proctor), and Whitewood Lenny (Maxine Locke) are strong contenders. Seomra Paws (Katie O’Flaherty) and Sir Oreo (Chris Hamblin) offer local prowess.

Heat Four: Droopys Eddie (Maxine Locke) enjoys significant support. Aero Convey (Paul Young) remains an improver, while Cunnigar Yousir (Nathan Hunt) seeks to capitalize on recent success. Indian Bob (Maxine Locke) and Burgess Coolio (Martyn Wiley) add to the competitive lineup.

Heat Five: Druids Say Go (Patrick Janssens) aims to capitalize on the rails slot. La Gitana (Patrick Janssens), Leeview Glory (Paul Burr), and Brinkleys Ginger (Patrick Browne) provide stiff competition.

Heat Six: Cooliogold (Maxine Locke) returns to form after a hiatus. Romeo Cypher (David Mullins), Kila Detail (Richard Rees), and Supa Nova (Paul Burr) ensure a powerhouse finish.

The Coral Golden Sprint promises a thrilling showcase of speed and skill, with each heat presenting a formidable lineup of competitors.
