New Shenstone Kennels Expand Greyhound Rehoming Efforts

Home Run Hounds, a greyhound rehoming centre, has expanded to a new site in Shenstone, known as Watford Gap Kennels. This expansion aims to provide more support for former racing greyhounds as they transition into retirement.

Originally founded in Wombourne in 2022, Home Run Hounds has grown significantly, now boasting a team of over 200 dedicated volunteers committed to finding new homes for retired greyhounds.

According to Director Claire Butler, the expansion to the new site has enabled them to significantly increase their rehoming efforts. In 2023, the volunteer team successfully found homes for 40 greyhounds from their Wombourne site. With the new Shenstone location, they aim to rehome even more greyhounds in 2024 and beyond.

Despite being open for only a few weeks, the new kennels have already seen success, with fifteen greyhounds finding loving homes through the rehoming scheme since the beginning of the year.

Home Run Hounds also organizes five group walks each month, bringing together both homeless and homed greyhounds to showcase the benefits of adopting a greyhound as a pet. One such walk occurs in Beacon Park in Lichfield on the fourth Sunday of every month at 11 am.
