Macmillan Cancer Support Charity Event at Sunderland Greyhound Stadium

Sunderland Greyhound Stadium is hosting a charity race night on Friday to raise funds and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event, held at the Newcastle Road venue, aims to highlight the vital work of the national charity, which supports approximately two million people living with cancer every year. To bolster fundraising efforts, the stadium will feature bucket collections, a raffle, and promotional materials to draw attention to Macmillan's initiatives.

In addition to these activities, a special hospitality package has been crafted, offering guests a two-course meal, drinks reception, entry, and a race card. All proceeds from this package will contribute to the overall fundraising total.

Louis Pern, one of the organizers of the fundraiser, emphasized the importance of supporting Macmillan's mission. "Everyone will know someone whose life has been affected by cancer," said Louis. "Macmillan plays a crucial role in providing care and support, and we want Friday’s event to contribute to their ongoing efforts."

Macmillan Cancer Support, established in 1911, conducts public campaigns, aids healthcare professionals, and conducts research into cancer care. Donations to the charity fund essential services, including the operation of online communities and the provision of nursing support to individuals affected by cancer.

Joanne Wilson, General Manager at Sunderland Greyhound Stadium, expressed the venue's commitment to supporting worthy causes. "We're fortunate to have a supportive community of racegoers who always rally behind our fundraising events," said Joanne. "With cancer touching the lives of so many, we hope our guests will join us in supporting those currently living with life-changing illnesses."

The doors will open at 6:30 pm, with the first race scheduled for 7:16 pm. =
