Lenson Doolin – The Hurdler of His Generation

Owner Simon Trubshaw has announced the retirement of his exceptional hurdler, Lenson Doolin, following a stellar career.

Set to turn five years old on Friday, the brindle made his debut for Patrick Janssens in November 2020. The following summer, he joined Ricky Holloway's team, where he won multiple opens on the flat, including reaching the Kent Derby Final. Just two months later, he contested his first Champion Hurdle Final.

The son of Out Of Range ASB and The Other Tessa, Lenson Doolin won the 2022 Springbok and finished runner-up in both the Grand National and Champion Hurdle. His remarkable achievements earned him the Hurdler of the Year title.

In 2023, he finally clinched the Champion Hurdle title and secured a second Hurdler of the Year award. He also set the Crayford 380mH track record with a time of 23.10 seconds. Lenson Doolin retired with an impressive record of 83 races and 42 wins, boasting a stunning 50.3% strike rate.

Simon Trubshaw commented: "Rick and I had hoped to target one more Champion Hurdle, but we always said the dog would let us know when it was time, and that time has come. He's picked up a few niggles this year, and we feel age may have finally caught up with him as he turns five.

"Doolin, whose pet name is Pat, has been a once-in-a-lifetime dog. The joy he's brought me ranks right up there with his on-track achievements! He’s full of character and will now enjoy a comfortable spot on his physio Ron Mills' sofa."

Lenson Doolin's career will be remembered for his incredible performances and his indomitable spirit on the track.
