GBGB Expands Veterinary Team with New Regional Regulatory Vets

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has taken a significant step in its long-term welfare strategy, "A Good Life for Every Greyhound," by appointing three new Regional Regulatory Vets (RRVs). These appointments mark a milestone in GBGB's commitment to enhancing veterinary resources across the sport, providing vital support to trainers, racecourse veterinary surgeons, and Stipendiary Stewards.

Joining RRVs Barry Sangster and Dr. Victoria Fraser, who began their roles in January 2023, the new appointees will cover various regions across the country:

  • Dr. Lawrence Steed: Responsible for the South East region, including Central Park, Romford, Harlow, Brighton and Hove, and Crayford stadia, as well as kennels in London and counties such as Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Essex, Bedfordshire, and Buckinghamshire. Lawrence brings valuable experience from his veterinary practice in London and his background in Australia.
  • Dr. Susan Andresier: Assigned to the South West and West Midlands region, encompassing Monmore, Perry Barr, Oxford, Swindon, and Valley stadia, as well as kennels in Wales and counties like Oxfordshire, Birmingham, Warwickshire, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, and Dorset. With over twenty years in the small animal veterinary industry, Susan's expertise will be invaluable.
  • Dr. Diego Mastrolia: Covering the East Midlands and East Anglia region, including Suffolk Downs, Yarmouth, and Towcester stadia, along with kennels in counties such as Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Suffolk, and Northamptonshire. Diego brings experience from the UK's Animal and Plant Health Agency, where he worked as a Senior Veterinary Inspector.

Tiffany Blackett, GBGB’s Veterinary Executive, expressed her pleasure in welcoming the new RRVs, highlighting their diverse veterinary backgrounds and wealth of experience. The RRVs will undergo an induction period, engaging with trainers, residential kennels, and racecourses to ensure comprehensive support for greyhound welfare nationwide.

With the addition of these new RRVs, GBGB reinforces its commitment to safeguarding greyhound welfare and further enhancing veterinary care within the sport.
