GBGB Confirms Disqualification Of 2024 Winter Derby Winner

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has officially announced the disqualification of CHURCHFIELD SYD, the winner of the 2024 Ladbrokes Winter Derby, due to a positive sample.

The final of the 480m flat competition occurred on Saturday, 17th February, at Monmore Green Greyhound Stadium. A sample was collected on the event's evening, following GBGB's anti-doping policy. The sample was subsequently confirmed positive by the specialist testing facility LGC.

In a statement, a GBGB spokesperson stated:

“Following the positive sample of CHURCHFIELD SYD on Saturday 17th February, as per Rule 173(ii), we can confirm that the greyhound has been disqualified from the 2024 Ladbrokes Winter Derby. Prize money and competition points are therefore forfeited and will automatically transfer to the runner-up of the competition, KING CAPALDI.

“We maintain a strict anti-doping policy and will be following all the appropriate disciplinary processes. An investigation is ongoing, and the owner, trainer, and stadium in question have all been notified.”
