Perry Barr, Romford and Yarmouth all feature in our column this Wednesday - get the trio of best bets with analysis online.
HILLTOP DESSIE (5) appears in the 19.56 at Perry Barr, having bolted up in A6 grade at the same track on his penultimate start, before missing the break and coming fifth in A4 last time. He is a greyhound who is a little all or nothing from the off – and today I’m keeping everything crossed he gets it right at lids rise. He has won plenty in the past, including in this grade, but this would be his peak.
Dessie has the quickest time in this field and is the only greyhound to have dipped below the 29s mark of late. On paper he should take all the beating, but they don’t always read the script!
Snooty Arthur (3) was a hound I put up last week who was slightly disappointing after a slow start. If he gets back to his trapping best, then he could rival Dessie into the first corner. He’s still unexposed at the track with just two runs to his name, so there will be more to come. I rate him as the biggest danger to Dessie in the 19.56.
ROLLAWAY COOPER (4) dons the black jacket in an A1 at Yarmouth at 20.38. He has super early pace and is on a bit of a roll, winning his last two races by a good margin in A2 and A1. He is only lightly raced at Yarmouth and there should be more to come from him, maybe even a minor Open in time. Last time was his first go in A1 grade, and as long as he traps well again, he makes all here.
Cooper recorded his quickest time when taking the A1 at the end of February, and although he has had a couple of weeks off, the Kobbold team will have him fit and firing for this race.
Tuck Up Two (3) is a dog to keep on side after he stumbled on his track debut and threw his chance away at lids rise. Prior to that, he had only raced on the Open circuit, winning just one race. If he manages to keep all four paws straight this evening, then he should be able to show us what he’s made of.
PENNYLANE COCOA (3) competes in the final race at Romford this evening (21.51). It’s a competitive S1 in which she should lead early and make all the running. She was a comfortable winner over their 750m trip on her penultimate start when never seeing another rival. Cocoa has been in good form recently with three wins in her last six, and you should never ignore a bitch in form.
Cocoa has never won an S1, despite having seven tries to do so. However, it looks set up for her to take this race from the off and show them all a clean pair of paws.
Hopes Rhino (2) would be the danger to the selection as he can also flash out of the boxes on occasion. He likes the rails though and would prefer to be in the red jacket. If he doesn’t get one of his better breaks, he could meet Monbeg Bosco on the opening corners and there may well be some crowding between the pair.
