Pat Buckley, the accomplished trainer from Cappawhite, is gearing up for a significant presence at this year's Star Sports/TRC English Derby, scheduled to commence on May 23rd.
Having bypassed last year's competition, Buckley is now poised to make a strong return, potentially entering a dozen or more greyhounds into the prestigious event. With eleven contenders already confirmed, Buckley hinted at the possibility of further additions in the days leading up to the event. The comprehensive trial session scheduled for May 15th will serve as a final preparation before the classic kicks off.
Leading Buckley's charge is Bens Teddy, the Boylesports Derby third, who remains on track for the classic despite a setback during the Easter Cup. Singalong Dolly, the Cesarewitch winner, is also set to compete after overcoming a challenging run in the Shelbourne Open 600.
Joining the formidable lineup are Ower Cracker and Coolavanny Otto, alongside seasoned performers Superfast Gorden and Glengar Martha. New additions to Buckley's team include Ballinabola Jim and Ballinabola Bill, with promising prospects like Antigua Hawk and Antigua Forky, formerly known as Optic Chico, also in contention.
Rounding off Buckley's lineup is Road Exile, known for his prowess over various distances. Despite his preference for shorter races, Buckley believes Road Exile is in peak condition and could excel over the 500m trip.
With such a talented and diverse team, all eyes will be on Buckley's contenders as they take on the challenge at Towcester.
