Following his recent Steel City Cup victory, Wicky Ned is set to trial at Nottingham on Monday as he gears up for the prestigious Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse. Jimmy Fenwick, who trains this standout son of Droopys Sydney, shared that Wicky Ned recovered well from Sunday’s final and is now targeting the £20,000 Category One event over 500 meters.
Fenwick expressed excitement about Nottingham, a track he believes complements Wicky Ned’s running style. The Newcastle-based trainer mentioned that the Neil McGregor-owned star is "ready to go" and will get a trial run next week. Although still young, with only three tracks on his resume, the August '22 whelp has already claimed victories in four competitions.
Fenwick noted that Wicky Ned’s race experience has mostly been at Sheffield, Towcester, and Newcastle, with one race at Cork in Ireland, saying that they’re still gaining insights into his potential. Recently, Wicky Ned claimed a £10,000 bonus from BresBet after adding the Steel City Cup to his previous Gymcrack victory.
The Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse, which closes for entries the Friday before, will kick off with six heats on November 11 at Nottingham. The semi-finals are scheduled a week later, leading up to the grand finale on November 25, which will be featured on Gone To The Dogs – Live!
