UNTOLD DOLLAR emerged victorious as Carol Weatherall’s promising young greyhound showcased a brilliant display of all-round pace to clinch the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby at Monmore on Saturday.
Despite being the least experienced and youngest finalist, Untold Dollar, owned by John and Callum Purdy, proved to be the fastest semi-final winner. The runner delighted connections with a solid start, narrowly edging ahead of Droopys Eunice as they approached the bend to seize a narrow advantage at the turn, thwarting the advancing Omuircheartaigh in the process.
Maintaining a narrow lead throughout, the two-time Clonmel winner and offspring of Irish Derby champion Newinn Taylor sustained the pace at the forefront, keeping his rivals at bay. Despite a spirited finish by Barntick Bear, trained by Patrick Janssens, who came within half a length of the 28.21-second winner, Untold Dollar secured the victory. Third place was claimed by Clona Curly from Diane Henry’s kennel.
Born in August 2022, Untold Dollar now joins a prestigious list of winners as the Premier Greyhound Racing Puppy Derby champion. Formerly known as both the Ladbrokes Puppy Derby and Midland Puppy Derby, this competition has always served as a precursor to major events, with Derby winners emerging from the 480m competition.
Only time will tell if this young star will compete in this year’s English Greyhound Derby at Towcester.
