Syd Dominates Ladbrokes Winter Derby

Churchfield Syd showcased an impressive performance, outclassing the competition to secure victory in the Ladbrokes Winter Derby at Monmore. This marked a second triumph in the event for Hove trainer Richard Rees.

Rees, who previously fielded the 2022 champion Burnchurch Mick and the 2021 runner-up Amazing Wink, added another title to his collection as Churchfield Syd capitalized on his sole seeded runner position from trap six.

Breaking ahead, the Kent Derby winner quickly found company in Liz McNair’s King Capaldi. The duo took control of the race as their competitors struggled for position inside.

Executing a superb performance on the first and second bends from his trap five position, King Capaldi surged to the front, attempting to create distance from the chasing pack. However, Churchfield Syd remained a constant threat on the outside.

Maintaining a strong pace, Churchfield Syd surged to the front after the last bend, securing the £10,000 prize with a time of 28.15 seconds. This victory marked his second Category One prize and second Premier Greyhound Racing triumph.

King Capaldi secured second place, followed by two runners from Tom Heilbron's kennel, Bogger Rambo and Links Maverick. Despite failing to add to his Gold Cup crown over the same course and distance last year, Links Maverick showcased a commendable performance in defeat.
