In a week marked by the loss of the legendary Droopys Sydney, his progeny made their mark with five standout performances in Ireland, capturing the attention of the racing community.
Among these, Broadstrand Syd delivered what could be considered the most impressive showing. He concluded his Bar One Sprint campaign with a victory, clocking an impressive 20.67. This was his third sub-20.70 run in the competition, an extraordinary feat considering the track record stood at 20.73 before the event began.
Another major highlight was the Irish St Leger final, where Clonbrien Treaty made history by becoming the first back-to-back winner of the event in over 50 years. Although his performance was exceptional, it coincided with Ower Cracker breaking the 600-yard track record, leading to both greyhounds sharing the Limerick award due to their equally impressive displays.
Shelbourne Park was abuzz with fast times on Saturday night, with Cheque For Cash delivering the quickest. Despite being eliminated in the opening round of the Time Juvenile Derby the previous week, he went on to outpace his conqueror, Callaway Knegare, by five spots.
Meanwhile, Unanimous Roxy posted the second-fastest time of 2024 at Enniscorthy, recording 28.58, just 20 spots shy of the track record. This run was particularly noteworthy as it was only her third race, and at just over a year old, she was the youngest greyhound to make the list of top performances this week.
