Perry Barr Grateful for Continued Support

Perry Barr’s racing manager, Martin Seal, expressed his gratitude to owners, trainers, and spectators for their "support, patience, and understanding" after Saturday’s heavy rain caused a delay mid-event. He’s hopeful that conditions will improve over the next two weekends.

The Midlands track hosted six heats each of the M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup, held in memory of Michael Lambe Senior and sponsored by local trainer John Lambe’s family, and the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger. The weather made it particularly tough for the stayers.

Seal noted that every dog that qualified for Saturday’s semi-finals earned their place, pinpointing that the extreme weather made it a challenging night. He praised the track staff for keeping the event on track, even with the hour-long break due to the storm. “It was a late finish, but we made the right call,” he said.

Seal also extended his thanks to the event sponsors, Premier Greyhound Racing and the Lambe family, acknowledging the importance of hosting two prestigious £20,000-to-the-winner competitions at Perry Barr. The Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks is scheduled for a few weeks’ time, and the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger continues to deliver high-quality racing. There’s even a chance of history being made if Droopys Clue takes another win.

The M Lambe Construction Birmingham Cup, a competition supported by the Lambe family since 2020, has an impressive list of winners, with the event’s roll of honour stretching back to 1939.
