Pape Di Oro Eyes Steel City Cup Glory

Trainer Savva Roberts is considering the BresBet Steel City Cup as a potential next step for Pape Di Oro after the greyhound returned to the track for a sprint trial at Owlerton Stadium on Sunday.

Pape Di Oro, who made a significant impact by winning the Coral Silver Maiden Final at Romford in January, has faced an inconsistent racing schedule since then. However, the greyhound showed promise with a sharp 16.12-second sprint before Sunday’s races.

Roberts mentioned that the dog appeared to be in good condition the following day and, while they are taking a cautious approach, he believes the Steel City Cup is worth pursuing. He acknowledged that it was an impressive sprint considering the long layoff, noting that Pape Di Oro had been working on the gallops.

Roberts emphasized that they would monitor the dog’s progress closely, but he expressed optimism about aiming for the Steel City Cup.

Pape Di Oro, a May 2021 offspring of Droopys Sydney, previously achieved a remarkable 23.80-second victory in the Category Two competition at Romford.
