New Welcome Pack for Retired Greyhound Owners

The Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) has introduced a new Welcome Pack designed to assist owners of retired racing greyhounds as they integrate their new pets into their homes. This comprehensive guide provides information on the breed's characteristics and the history of racing greyhounds, along with detailed advice on ongoing care and transitioning to a domestic setting.

Developed with input from Greyhound Forum members, the Welcome Pack has been distributed to all homing centres approved by GBGB's Greyhound Retirement Scheme (GRS) and is also accessible on the GBGB website. This initiative is part of GBGB's broader welfare strategy, "A Good Life for Every Greyhound," aimed at ensuring optimal care for greyhounds throughout their lives.

Since the inception of the GRS, more than 11,000 racing greyhounds have been helped to find permanent homes. Participation in the Scheme is mandatory for all greyhounds racing at GBGB-licensed tracks. Upon retirement and entry into an approved homing centre, each greyhound receives a £400 bond from the GRS to support its care. Additionally, GBGB provides grants to approved homing centres for welfare improvements, further supporting the transition of these animals into loving homes.
