Monmore’s Elite Performances
A week before the Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Summer Stayers, Monmore showcased impressive talent. The standout of the night was Icemans Girl in the trial stakes for the Gold Cup, clocking in at 28.28. Despite the challenging heat, she outpaced Derby finalist Whyaye Man, quarter-finalist Cooliogold, and Derby Plate runner-up Kilara Roberto.
Icemans Girl’s Dominance
Achieving a 4.30 sectional, Icemans Girl took an early lead, which she maintained with sheer grit and determination. Other notable 480m open race winners included Bramble Elvis (28.30), Nowitsmyturn (28.32), Fine Thanks (28.44), and Aero Sacaundai (28.47).
Six Bend Standouts
In the six-bend category, Droopys Clue, trained by Seamus Cahill, set the bar high with a 37.48 finish. New Destiny (37.87), Clona Curly (37.95), and Magical Luna (37.97) also secured victories in the 630m races. Cree Jo Jo claimed the sprint contest, finishing at 15.37.
Pre-Race Trials Highlights
During pre-race trials, the 28-second barrier was challenged. Churchfield Syd, a Derby finalist trained by Richard Rees, delivered a strong performance with a time of 28.06. Having won the Ladbrokes Winter Derby in February, he finished second to Links Maverick in the previous year's Gold Cup.
Fastest of the Night
Kevin Hutton’s Antigua Eagle was the night’s fastest, completing the race in 28.02. A Puppy Derby finalist in March, Antigua Eagle once again demonstrated his affinity for the Wolverhampton circuit.
