March On Freddie Gears Up for Irish Derby at Shelbourne

March On Freddie is now settled in County Tipperary as he prepares for heat 16 of the Boylesports Irish Derby at Shelbourne Park on Saturday.

Trainer David Mullins has been travelling with his star greyhound, who recently had a 525-yard run at Shelbourne following a sprint workout the previous week. Freddie is currently staying at his breeder Rachel Wheeler’s facility in Golden, where he will remain throughout the prestigious competition.

Mullins shared that they felt it was necessary to take this opportunity, given how promising Freddie is. However, he acknowledged that it requires a significant commitment, especially with other runners back in the UK and the demanding schedule in Ireland.

Interestingly, Mullins pointed out that the later timing of the Irish Derby this year has actually been beneficial for UK trainers, as there are fewer competitions compared to the busier late summer period.

He expressed satisfaction with Freddie’s draw, noting that while there are some tough competitors, the greyhound has settled in well and is ready for the challenge. "He’s back home, and we’re feeling confident," Mullins remarked.
