Jason Thompson Makes History with Sixth Brisbane Cup Win

Jason Thompson etched his name in the annals of greyhound racing history by securing his sixth Brisbane Cup victory with Flying Zulu at Albion Park on Thursday night.

In a thrilling conclusion, Flying Zulu surged past the front-runner, Lakeview Emily, in the final stretch, finishing a length ahead with a time of 29.66 seconds and paying $5.50 at Neds.

Good Odds Cobber from New South Wales claimed third place in the race.

This victory was Flying Zulu's 14th in 25 races and his first major group 1 win, following his second-place finish in the G1 Harrison Dawson at Sandown in May.

The triumph held special significance for the Thompson family, who had invested early in the offspring of Orson Allen.

Flying Zulu's win was particularly momentous as it marked the last Brisbane Cup to be held at Albion Park before its relocation to The Q track next year.

The stellar performances by Flying Zulu under Thompson and Lakeview Emily under Tony Brett underscore their dominance in Brisbane's premier competitions.

Collectively, these two esteemed trainers have now secured 11 wins out of the last 21 Brisbane Cup races.
