Excitement Builds for Jay & Kay Coach Tours Gold Collar Final

“It’s a fantastic final, full of quality, and that’s what makes greyhound racing great,” said the leading owner, whose company is backing the £10,000-to-the-winner competition for the first time, having for many years sponsored the Kent St Leger at the track.

Brazier, a prominent greyhound racing owner, praised the quality of this year’s competition, describing the final as a showcase of excellence. Reflecting on the sponsorship opportunity, he explained that a scheduling adjustment led Crayford to offer his company the chance to sponsor the Gold Collar. He expressed gratitude for the high-calibre event, noting that the performances and finalists have exceeded expectations.

Among the contenders, Brazier shared his hopes for Tony Welch’s Savana Moo, calling the dog undervalued in the betting markets. He analysed the field, highlighting that dogs like Wrighty and Aayamza Sydney prefer the rails, while Slick Sabo has a middle-running style that could provide an advantage. However, he pointed out that Droopys Eunice is another rail runner, which could complicate the race dynamics. Brazier believes if the early pace setters, Allowdale Cazoo and Savana Moo, avoid congestion at the first bend, they might establish a lead. Still, he cautioned that Aayamza Sydney’s sheer strength and ability to navigate tricky situations could make the dog hard to beat.

Brazier ultimately tipped Aayamza Sydney, trained by John Mullins, as the favourite due to the dog's ability to find a way through and dominate over the distance.

Semi-Final Recap

The fastest semi-final performance came from Droopys Eunice, trained by Maxine Locke. The Romford-based runner delivered an impressive display in the third heat, overtaking early leader Allowdale Cazoo with a strong finish to win by three lengths in a quick 33.28 seconds (+30). Known for her consistency, Droopys Eunice has now reached another major final.

The first semi-final saw Mullins secure a one-two finish with Aayamza Sydney, who showcased his trademark finishing power to edge out kennelmate Wrighty in a photo finish, clocking 33.55 seconds (+30).

In the second semi-final, local favourite Slick Sabo, trained by Ricky Holloway, capitalised on his inside draw to dominate from start to finish. He held off a challenge from Savana Moo to win by two and three-quarter lengths in 33.74 seconds (-30).

Final Showdown

As the excitement builds, the Jay & Kay Coach Tours Gold Collar final promises to be a thrilling contest. With a mix of early speedsters and powerful finishers, all eyes will be on how the race unfolds. For Brazier, presenting the trophy to a friend like Tony Welch would make the moment even sweeter—but with such a competitive field, the outcome is anyone’s guess.
