In recent years, several prominent jockeys have ventured into greyhound ownership, and the latest to join the ranks is Dylan Browne McMonagle.
Having made a name for himself in the horse racing world, the young jockey is now setting his sights on success in greyhound racing. Dylan's first greyhound, an exceptionally well-bred bitch named Droopys Kathleen, is set to debut in an Open Unraced competition at Shelbourne Park on Friday.
Droopys Kathleen, the daughter of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Dancer, has already created a buzz in the greyhound community. Trainer Robert Gleeson has been impressed with her progress, noting her impressive trial times—clocking a fast 28.55 at Newbridge in August and following up with an even more impressive 18.55 at Shelbourne Park three weeks later.
She faces a tough challenge in the first round of the Upcoming Puppy Oaks ON1 Bitch 525, but with her strong form and ideal draw on the rails, Droopys Kathleen is expected to start as the favourite. Though there are several promising bitches in the twelve-dog lineup, few are generating as much excitement as she is.
Best of luck to Dylan in this new venture, and here's hoping Droopys Kathleen blossoms into something extraordinary.
