After finishing as the runner-up in 2023, Droopys Clue finally clinched victory in this year's thrilling Summer Stayers race.
While the Gold Cup turned out to be a straightforward win, the Summer Stayers race was anything but. It lived up to its billing as one of the most competitive staying races of 2024, with just a head separating the top two finishers at the line.
Liz McNair's kennel, aiming for a third consecutive win following successes with Warzone Tom and Fromposttopilar, seemed poised to claim the title again. Queen Georgia led for most of the race, but Droopys Clue, trained by Seamus Cahill, executed a perfectly timed challenge to snatch victory in 37.54 seconds.
This win marked a double on the night for last year's runner-up and further demonstrated the remarkable versatility of Droopys Clue. As the reigning Greyhound of the Year, Droopys Clue is making a strong case for another title, having already set a track record at Towcester, secured this Category One victory, and reached yet another Category One final.
Queen Georgia came agonisingly close to adding another win to her Three Steps to Victory triumph. Baywatch Bullet, trained by Belinda Green, defied the odds to take third place, continuing her impressive form in Category One races after winning the Regency. Meanwhile, Cooladerry Dust, who has now made it to three straight Category One finals, seems destined for victory soon.
