20:24 HOVE: WASTED MONDAY (Trap 5)
WASTED MONDAY (Trap 5), who finished second in the Sussex Cup earlier this year, is set to take on the night’s headline event, the Dual Distance Trophy Final at Hove (20:24), over the familiar 515m track. Trainer Belinda Green's runner had too much ground to cover behind Droopys Pivotel (Trap 1), the fastest qualifier, during last week’s heats over 500m. However, with WASTED MONDAY’s track record of improving after a layoff and the added benefit of stepping up to a distance that suits him better, he is expected to reverse that result this time.
19:33 HOVE: STARSHINESTUNNER (Trap 2)
STARSHINESTUNNER (Trap 2) showed promise despite narrowly missing out in a 575m Open at Romford last week. She now lines up in a heat of the Bitches Trophy at Hove (19:33). After an early exit in the Oaks earlier this year, she’s been slowly returning to form. Trainer Richard Rees will hope the more spacious Sussex track allows her to capitalise on her impressive speed, especially after experiencing crowding issues in recent races. With more room to manoeuvre, she's definitely one to watch.
20:01 NEWCASTLE: BALLYMAC LINEOUT (Trap 1)
In the Stayers contest at Newcastle (20:01), BALLYMAC LINEOUT (Trap 1) stands out. Stepping back up to six bends, this experienced racer has already secured two victories from his last three outings over the 640m distance. Having recently hit form over shorter trips, his chances look even stronger over the longer distance, where his past performances suggest he's a class above his competition.
