Churchfield Syd emerged as the standout performer at Monmore's gala event on Saturday, each achieving what they narrowly missed out on last year.
Churchfield Syd, trained by Richard Rees, who had finished second to Links Maverick a year ago, secured a commanding win in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup Final. Displaying a remarkable burst of speed right from the start, he dominated the Category One event, leaving his rivals far behind.
Owned by Daryl Bear and Steve and Billy Evans, this Derby fourth-place finisher extended his lead with every step, ultimately crossing the finish line five and a half lengths ahead of Antigua Eagle, trained by Kevin Hutton, and Ballymac John. The victory, completed in 28.00 seconds, earned him the £10,000 first prize.
The night also featured two other finals, both in Category Three. Lion Heart, trained by Carl Jackson, claimed victory for Newcastle in the Peter Billingham Memorial Trophy Final with a time of 28.22 seconds. Meanwhile, the Monmoredogs Dash Final ended in a dead heat, as the photo-finish couldn't separate local contender Knock Beeswing, trained by Brian Thompson, from Romford's Tullymurry Dylan, trained by Maxine Locke.
