At Shelbourne Park, Callaway Knegare, trained by Owen McKenna, emerged as the fastest heat winner in the second round of the TIME Juvenile Derby.
The son of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Sweet broke well from trap one, along with Tivoli Milo, trained by Thomas O’Donovan. As the two greyhounds approached the first bend, Knegare refused to let Milo get ahead, muscling through to create a gap. From that point onward, it was clear that Knegare was in control, crossing the finish line with a time of 27.98 (track marked +.20 spots fast). Boylesports Blue, trained by Paul Hennessy, finished seventeen lengths behind in second place, with Tivoli Milo taking third.
In another heat, Ballymac Briar, trained by Liam Dowling, showcased an impressive performance, winning in 28.05. He narrowly held off the fast-finishing Coosane Pickles, trained by Michael J O’Donovan, who took second by just a short head. Clonfert Annie, trained by John Young, secured third place.
The opening heat saw Cheap Sandwiches, trained by Graham Holland, claim victory in a time of 28.18. He showed determination, overtaking the early leader, Evolution, who finished two lengths back in second place for trainer Owen McKenna. Ballybough Nutz, trained by Murt Leahy, finished third.
The final heat belonged to Fun In The Run, a promising youngster trained by Michael Malone. Despite being only a January 2023 puppy, Fun In The Run displayed great potential, winning by four lengths in 28.23. He beat Hello Diego, trained by Paul Hennessy, who finished second, with Innfield Destiny, trained by Barry Clancy, coming in third.
