Bombout Bullet, under the guidance of Hove trainer Belinda Green, secured an unbeaten run and clinched the gold in the Arena Racing Company National Sprint Final over 305m at Nottingham on Boxing Day. The sprint championship, delayed a week due to heavy rain, added excitement to the traditional Boxing Day card at Colwick Park.
Starting as a 4-7 favorite after impressive performances in the heats and semis, Bombout Bullet dominated from a red-jacket draw, securing victory by three and three-quarter lengths. The explosive sprinter covered the two-bend trip in a rapid 17.52 seconds.
Trained by Belinda Green and owned by Billy Boyle, Clive and Dave Lawrence, along with Green herself, Bombout Bullet showcased his prowess and thrilled connections. The greyhound, born in April 2021, is the son of Ballymac Best and Carmac Luna.
Billy Boyle, part-owner of Bombout Bullet, expressed his gratitude to Nottingham for hosting the competition and commended the track's management for their top-class hospitality. Boyle mentioned how Belinda Green had asked him to look for a sprinter, leading to the acquisition of Bombout Bullet. The greyhound, with an explosive sprinting style, has brought joy to the owners and added another major title to trainer Belinda Green's achievements.
Boyle reflected on a successful year, which included winning the Monmore Puppy Derby and Brighton Belle, and expressed his happiness for co-owners Clive Lawrence and Dave Lawrence.
David Evans, the general manager of Nottingham, praised the Boxing Day meeting, attracting over 300 restaurant diners and more than 600 trackside spectators. He highlighted the exceptional performance of Bombout Bullet, clocking the fastest National Sprint final time at Nottingham since 1990. Evans thanked all involved in making 2023 a great year for Nottingham Greyhound Stadium and invited spectators to enjoy racing and discounts in January and February 2024.
