Since its inception in 2012 as the Night of Stars, the RCÉ Winter Racing Festival at Shelbourne Park has consistently delivered electrifying moments. The 2024 edition was no exception, as Saturday's (December 7th) grand finale wrapped up the event with remarkable highlights, promising stories, and celebrations that extended well into the night.

Graham Holland’s Riverside Kennels shone brightly, securing four victories in one evening, while owners John and Callum Purdy experienced one of their most extraordinary nights in the sport.

Untold Rufiyaa Dominates the National Puppy Stake

For John and Callum Purdy, the evening was particularly special. Their greyhound, Untold Dollar, claimed victory in the Winter Racing Festival Championship 600, while Untold Rufiyaa triumphed in the prestigious IGOBF National Puppy Stake. Although many had anticipated a close contest between Ballymac Eli and Untold Rufiyaa, the latter’s explosive start silenced all doubts. By the back straight, Untold Rufiyaa had established a commanding lead, ultimately crossing the finish line four lengths ahead in a swift 28.29 seconds. Trainer David Byrne, who recently obtained his licence, celebrated a remarkable milestone with this success.

Untold Dollar Proves His Class

Untold Dollar once again showcased his brilliance, taking the Winter Racing Festival Championship 600 with ease. His performance underlined his potential, as he surged ahead early, maintaining his lead to win in 32.22 seconds. This victory added another feather to Graham Holland’s cap, highlighting the greyhound’s adaptability over longer runs.

The Other Kobe’s Commanding Display

The 2023 Derby champion, The Other Kobe, made a stunning return, dominating the Winter Racing Festival Championship 525. After a flawless start, he extended his lead with every stride, ultimately finishing four lengths ahead in a stellar 28.12 seconds. Whether this was his swan song or not, his owners, Brian Clare and David L’Estrange, have much to celebrate from his illustrious career.

Bombay Pat Completes Holland’s Four-Timer

The night concluded with Bombay Pat delivering a masterclass in the finale. Starting as the favourite, he secured a smooth victory, crossing the line two lengths ahead in 31.07 seconds. This win cemented Graham Holland’s position as the standout trainer of the festival.

Jaytee Craze’s Triple Triumph

Jaytee Craze extended his unbeaten record over six bends, taking the Winter Racing Festival Championship 750 in style. His superior pace allowed him to dominate the field, crossing the finish line two and a half lengths ahead in 41.92 seconds.

Ballyhooly Tejay’s Spectacular Run

In the open 850 event, Ballyhooly Tejay delivered the most emphatic win of the night, leaving his rivals 16.5 lengths behind. This display of speed and stamina suggests a promising future for the greyhound, with 2025 looking bright for his career over longer distances.

Cheque For Cash’s Grit

The opening race saw Cheque For Cash battling fiercely to secure victory in the Juvenile 525. Despite Ballymac Briar’s strong challenge, Cheque For Cash reclaimed the lead in the home straight, finishing two and a half lengths clear in 28.46 seconds.
